Basically, the chairs were spinning, the egos were bruised, and Ronan Keating and Richard Marx are absolutely not taking this rivalry lightly.

The 60 Four Bring The Party

South Australian vocal group The 60 Four were one of the night’s big early moments, getting all four coaches to turn with their performance of Leo Sayer’s You Make Me Feel Like Dancing.

The group brought harmonies, movement and serious old-school showmanship, which immediately had the panel fired up.

Richard Marx was especially impressed, praising the individual voices in the group and singling out one member’s falsetto.

But the real twist came when Richard blocked Ronan, taking him out of the running before he could properly pitch.

Ronan was visibly crushed, calling it one of the best auditions he had seen on The Voice. Unfortunately for him, compliments do not unblock a chair.

With Ronan sidelined, The 60 Four chose Melanie C, who leaned on her own girl-group experience to make the winning pitch.

Leyla Sabo Blows Everyone Away

Then came 12-year-old Leyla Sabo from Victoria, who walked on stage and delivered the kind of vocal that makes everyone immediately check the birth certificate.

Her performance of Sia’s Alive earned another four-chair turn, with the coaches stunned when they realised just how young she was.

Melanie C said her mind was blown, Kate Miller-Heidke praised the purity and musicality in her voice, and Richard looked very ready to fight for her.

Unfortunately for Richard, Ronan had other plans.

After being blocked earlier in the night, Ronan returned serve and used his block to stop Richard from pitching for Leyla.

Petty? Maybe. Effective? Absolutely.

Richard was furious, Ronan was delighted, and Leyla ultimately joined Team Ronan.

That sound you heard was the coach rivalry getting very real, very quickly.

Benny D Williams Finally Gets His Moment

Queensland father-of-three Benny D Williams also had a massive audition, earning four chair turns with a medley of Proud Mary, Bust A Move and Jump.

Using a loop pedal, Benny built the performance piece by piece, showing off not just his voice but his musicianship and stage presence.

Tones And I recognised the looping skills straight away, while Richard praised his tone, vibrato and confidence.

After years working in music, Benny’s relief was obvious. He chose Team Richard, giving Richard at least one win after the Leyla block drama.

Tones And I Makes Another Secret Save

The episode’s softer moment came from 47-year-old Victorian dock worker Dicko, who performed Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout The Good Old Days) in honour of his father, who is living with dementia.

None of the four main coaches turned, but Dicko’s performance still found its person.

Watching from her hidden room, Tones And I decided he deserved another chance and added him to her secret coaching program.

It means Dicko will now get behind-the-scenes mentoring before returning later in the competition.

The twist has already seen Tones save Red Roy, Jamie Koul, Lilita Keni and now Dicko, which means she is quietly assembling a team while the other coaches have no idea.

Very mysterious. Very dramatic. Very The Voice.

The Coach Drama Is Heating Up

By the end of the night, Ronan and Richard’s rivalry had become the episode’s main subplot.

Richard blocked Ronan from The 60 Four. Ronan blocked Richard from Leyla. Both men looked personally wounded at different points.

And somewhere in the middle of all that, Melanie C walked away with a polished vocal group, Ronan landed a 12-year-old powerhouse, Richard picked up a seasoned performer, and Tones And I saved someone nobody else saw coming.

Not bad for one night of blind auditions.
